Choose ambience over cuisine if dining in Roussillon, and enjoy any of the eateries
on the main square. Restaurants change with the mistral here—what's good one year dis-
appoints the next. Consider my suggestions and go with what looks best. Look also at
the hotels listed in Joucas (see “Sleeping and Eating in Joucas,” later)—all offer quality
cuisine at fair prices, just a few minutes' drive from Roussillon.
On Place de la Poste:
Chez David,
at the recommended hotel Le Clos de la Glycine
(described earlier), is
the
place to splurge. You can enjoy a fine meal on the terrace or
from an interior window table with point-blank views over the ochre cliffs. The Provençal
cuisine is as fabulous as the scenery (€32-52
menus
, closed all day Wed and Sun evening,
Place de la Poste, tel. 04 90 05 60 13).
La Grappe de Raisin
serves a house specialty of a simple but tasty plate of veget-
ables and fish served with aioli, a garlic-mayonnaise-based sauce (€15-aioli plate, lunch
daily, dinner only in July-Aug, next door to TI, tel. 04 90 71 38 06).
