2.7.6 Coordinate System
The following rectangular right-hand coordinates are applied.
• Design coordinate system ''O d X d Y d Z d ''
Origin of coordinates is in LV/satellite interface plane on the center lines of the
launch vehicle and satellite; it coincides with the geometrical center of the base plate.
O d Z d axis is perpendicular to the LV/satellite interface plane with +Z toward the nose
of the fairing that corresponds to nadir on orbit. O d X d axis lies in the interface plane
and is pointed to direction of flight. O d Y d axis lies in the interface plane and
supplements the design coordinate system to make it a right-hand one (Fig. 2.22 ).
• Orbital coordinate system ''O X o Y o Z o ''
Origin of coordinates O coincides with the satellite's center of mass. OZ o is
directed along a radius vector which joins the satellite's center of mass and the
Earth's center, where +Z in nadir direction. OX o lies in the satellite's orbital plane
and is orbital motion-directed. OY o supplements the orbital coordinates to make
them a right-hand system (Fig. 2.22 ).
