In-Depth Information
Bus
Calgary Transit (403/262-1000, www.calgarytransit.com ) goes just about everywhere in
town by combining two light-rail lines with extensive bus routes. Buses are adult $2.75,
child $2—deposit the exact change in the box beside the driver and request a transfer (valid
for 90 minutes). A day pass, which is valid for unlimited bus and rail travel, is adult $8.50,
child $5.75. The best place for information and schedules is the Calgary Transit Cus-
tomer Service Centre (244 7th Ave. SW, 10am-5pm Mon.-Fri.).
C-Train
C-train, the light-rail transit (LRT) system, has three lines that total 60 kilometers (37
miles) of track and over 40 stations. All lines converge on 7th Avenue, running parallel for
the entire distance through downtown. From here, the 202 (also known as Whitehorn) runs
past the zoo and the Max Bell Theatre to suburban Saddletowne. The West LRT, which
was completed in 2013, has six stations extending west as far as 69th Street. The other
line 201/starts in the northwest at Crowchild station, with stops at the university and Banff
Trail (Motel Village). On the south side of the city, stations include two for Stampede Park
and a bunch along Macleod Trail before ending in the far south of the city at Somerset-
Bridlewood. C-train travel is free along 7th Avenue and $2.75 to all other destinations.
Passengers with Disabilities
All C-trains and stations are wheelchair accessible. Low-floor buses are employed on
many bus routes; call ahead for a schedule. Calgary Handi-bus (403/276-8028,
www.calgaryhandibus.com ) provides wheelchair-accessible transportation throughout the
city.
Taxi
The flag charge for a cab in Calgary is $3.75, and it's around $1.60 for every kilometer.
Passengers departing Calgary International Airport by cab pay a $4 surcharge. Taxi com-
panies include Advance (403/777-1111), Associated Cabs (403/299-1111), Checker/Yel-
low Cabs (403/299-9999), and Mayfair (403/255-6555).
Car Rental
If you're planning on starting your Alberta travels from Calgary and need a rental car,
make reservations as far in advance as possible to secure the best rates. Rentals beginning
from the airport incur additional charges, so consider renting from downtown or from one
of the many hotels that have representatives based in their lobbies.
