Banks
In the heart of downtown, Calforex (228 8th Ave. SW, 403/290-0330) exchanges foreign
currency and lets you wire international payments. Most major banks carry U.S. currency
and can handle basic foreign-exchange transactions.
Photography
I've been trusting my photographic needs to The Camera Store (802 11th Ave. SW, 403/
234-9935, 9am-6pm Mon.-Fri., 9am-5pm Sat.) for many years. They have knowledgeable
service and sales divisions, with the latter up to speed on the latest digital and video tech-
nology.
Emergency Services
For medical emergencies, call 911 or contact Foothills Hospital (1403 29th Ave. NW, 403/
670-1110) or Rockyview General Hospital (7007 14th St. SW, 403/943-3000). Across
16th Avenue to the north from Foothills Hospital, the Alberta Children's Hospital (2888
Shaganappi Trail NW, 403/955-7211) is difficult to miss with its colorfully modern ex-
terior. For the Calgary Police, call 911 in an emergency or 403/266-1234 for nonurgent
matters.
