The Kootenai Brown Dining Room (Bayshore Inn, 403/859-2211, 7am-10pm daily,
$21-32) has predictable hotel dining, with a menu to suit all tastes. The lake views through
the dining room windows make this place that much more enjoyable. In July and August,
a breakfast buffet costs $18.
The big windows at the Royal Stewart Dining Room (403/859-2231, 11:30am-2pm
and 5pm-9:30pm daily in summer, $27-40), a formal restaurant in the Prince of Wales
Hotel, allow you to gaze down along Upper Waterton Lake while soaking up an old-world
elegance unequaled in the park. A simple breakfast buffet every morning (6:30am-10am,
$21 per person) is worth attending for the views alone. The rest of the day, the menu is
mostly old-fashioned, but with choices like charbroiled pork chop smothered in a Saska-
toon berry and gorgonzola sauce, no one complains. Prices are similar to any big-city res-
taurant of the same standard—for dinner, expect to pay around $120 for two without alco-
holic drinks and tip. If you are going to splurge, do it here.
OUTSIDE THE PARK
You'll pass Twin Butte Country General Store (Hwy. 6, 16 km/10 mi north of the park
entrance, 403/627-4035, 10am-8pm daily, $9-22) on the road between Pincher Creek and
the park. Rather than just a general store as the name suggests, it is home to a friendly little
café serving up inexpensive Mexican dishes and local specialties such as elk burgers.
Information and Services
On the main access road opposite the Prince of Wales Hotel, the Waterton Visitor Centre
(403/859-5133, 9am-5pm daily May and early Sept., 9am-8pm daily June-Aug.) provides
general information on the park, sells fishing licenses, and issues Wilderness Use Permits.
The park's administration office on Mount View Road (403/859-2224, 8am-4pm week-
