In-Depth Information
The only camping right in town is at Marv Moore Campground (780/827-2404, May-
late Sept., tents $25, powered sites $30), which has semiprivate, well-shaded sites and
showers, kitchen shelters, a laundry, and firewood. It's at the north end of town on Shand
Avenue beside the golf course. Four forestry campgrounds are at regular intervals along
Highway 40; of special note for its scenic location is the one at the south end of Sulphur
Gates Provincial Recreation Area (west off Hwy. 40 north of town, May-Oct., $15 per
site), which makes a good base for exploring adjacent Willmore Wilderness Park. It has
just 10 sites.
Food
On a clear day, the view from the Family Restaurant (Grande Cache Hotel, 780/
827-3377, breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, $13-19) is worth at least the price of a coffee.
Soup and sandwich lunch specials are approximately $10, and pizza and pasta dishes start
at $13. At the back of Grande Cache Hotel is Rockies Bar and Grill (780/827-3377), with
a regular bar menu and occasional live music. Across the plaza is Dragon Place Restaur-
ant (780/827-3898, 11am-10pm daily, $10.50-17). This is your quintessential small-town
Chinese restaurant, with big portions of all the usual westernized Chinese favorites.
