Another rail option is offered by Rocky Mountaineer Vacations (604/606-7245 or 877/
460-7245, www.rockymountaineer.com ) . This company operates a luxurious summer-
only rail service between Vancouver and Jasper, with an overnight in Kamloops (British
Columbia).
Bus
Greyhound buses (780/852-332 or 800/661-8747, www.greyhound.ca ) depart Jasper for
all points in Canada (except Banff), including Vancouver (three times daily, 12-13 hours,
$142 one-way), Edmonton (five times daily, 4.5 hours, $67 one-way) with connections to
Calgary, and Prince Rupert (once daily, 18 hours, $198 one-way).
The main carrier up the Icefields Parkway from Calgary and Banff is Banff-based
Brewster (780/852-3332 or 866/606-6700, www.brewster.ca ) . This company operates
a shuttle between Calgary International Airport daily May-October ($134 each way).
Between December and April, Sun Dog Tours (780/852-4056 or 888/786-3641,
www.sundogtours.com ) operates a skier shuttle between Calgary and Jasper once daily in
each direction. Sample fares to Jasper are from Calgary, $128; from Banff, $69; and from
Lake Louise, $58.
GETTING AROUND
The Maligne Valley Shuttle (780/852-3370) runs out to Maligne Lake mid-May-Septem-
ber, 3-4 times daily ($40 round-trip) from its depot at 616 Patricia Street. Stops are made
at Maligne Canyon and HI-Maligne Canyon. Other pickup points include the Jasper Inn
and The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge.
Rental cars start at $60 per day, including 150 kilometers (93 miles) free. The following
companies have local agencies, and their local numbers are Avis (780/852-3970), Budget
(780/852-3222), Hertz (780/852-3888), and National (780/852-1117).
Cabs in town are not cheap. Most drivers will take you on a private sightseeing tour or
to trailheads if requested; try Jasper Taxi (780/852-3600 or 780/852-3146).
Other Parks Near Jasper
Two parks adjoining Jasper National Park are well worth visiting if you have the time. To
the west, across the Continental Divide, Mount Robson Provincial Park is named for the
Canadian Rockies' highest mountain and is best-known by hikers for the Berg Lake Trail.
