The earliest tourists to Jasper came by train, but as the automobile gained popularity
in the 1920s, accommodations were built specifically to cater to visitors who arrived
by motor vehicle. Typically, these “bungalow camps” consisted of a cluster of cab-
ins set around a central lodge where meals were served and—with no need for the
railway—were spread throughout the park. This type of accommodation remains in
various forms today, a popular alternative for those who don't need the luxuries as-
sociated with hotels and the services of downtown Jasper. They are generally only
open May-early October.
This is the price range that most downtown Jasper hotel rooms fall within. Right
