(1.2 miles) north of Highwood Pass, leads 150 meters (0.1 mile) to a unique formation of
moraine rock.
From the pass, Highway 40 descends into the Highwood/Cataract Creek areas of Kana-
naskis Country (Highwood Junction is 35 km/22 mi from the pass). Note: The road over
Highwood Pass passes through a critical wildlife habitat, and in this regard it is closed
December-mid-June.
HIKING
The park offers several interesting interpretive trails and more strenuous hikes. Most trail-
heads are along Kananaskis Lakes Road, a paved road that leads off Highway 40 to Upper
and Lower Kananaskis Lakes. Many trails feature interpretive signs; others require an in-
terpretive booklet available from the Visitor Information Centre. Rockwall Trail, from the
Visitor Information Centre, and Marl Lake Trail, from Elkwood Campground, are wheel-
chair accessible and barrier free, respectively. These are some of the park's more popular
