Banff Boundary Lodge (1000 Harvie Heights Rd., 403/678-9555 or 877/678-9555,
www.banffboundarylodge.com , $179-219 s or d) has less outdoor space than the Gateway
Inn but is a newer property. The 42 units each have one or two bedrooms, a comfortable
lounge area with TV/DVD, and a full kitchen. Other facilities include an outdoor hot tub,
barbecue area, and laundry. Outside of summer, rates drop to around $100, an excellent
value.
DEADMAN'S FLATS
Deadman's Flats, seven kilometers (4.3 miles) east of Canmore along the TransCanada
Highway, is little more than a truck stop, but it has motels, a bed-and-breakfast, and a
24-hour gas station.

The best value of the bunch is the Big Horn Motel (403/678-2290 or 800/892-9908,
www.bighornmotel.com , $99-209). It offers 27 surprisingly modern, mostly nonsmoking
rooms. All have TVs and phones, some have kitchens and balconies, and a couple are
wheelchair accessible.
CAMPGROUNDS
Commercial Campgrounds
Along the Bow Valley Trail toward Banff is Rundle Mountain Campground (403/
678-2131 or 866/678-2267, $28-34 per site), opposite the motel of the same name. It offers
showers, laundry facilities, and hookups, but it's a smaller space with crowded sites.
Other Campgrounds
East of Canmore are three government campgrounds operated by Bow Valley Camp-
grounds (403/673-2163, www.bowvalleycampgrounds.com ) . Each has pit toilets, kitchen
shelters, and firewood for sale at $8 per bundle. None have hookups. Bow River Camp-
ground (late Apr.-early Sept., unserviced sites $24, powered sites $36) is three kilometers
(1.9 miles) east of Canmore at the Three Sisters Parkway overpass; Three Sisters Camp-
