private balconies overlooking Policeman's Creek. The adjoining bar opens at 7am daily
for the best value breakfast in town.
Across the creek from the Drake Inn is the Bow Valley Motel (610 8th St., 403/
678-5085 or 800/665-8189, www.bowvalleymotel.ca , $120-140 s or d), offering 25 rooms
at the north end of the main street. The rooms are far from the cutting edge of modern
style, but the location and price are right. On-site is an outdoor hot tub and coin-operated
laundry facilities.
Not only can you rent one- and two-bedroom units with full kitchens at Rocky Moun-
tain Ski Lodge (1711 Bow Valley Trail, 403/678-5445 or 800/665-6111,
www.rockymtnskilodge.com , from $120 s or d), but there's also plenty of outdoor space
for kids to run around, including a small playground. Also on the property is a barbecue
and picnic area, a laundry, and wireless Internet. The self-contained suites, some with loft
bedrooms, cost from $179.
M Creekside Country Inn (709 Benchlands Trail, 403/609-5522 or 866/609-5522,
www.creeksidecountryinn.com , $139-199 s or d) is a modern, mountain-style lodge fea-
turing lots of exposed timber. The 12 rooms are elegant in their simplicity; eight have lofts.
Facilities include a lounge with roaring log fire, a small exercise room, a whirlpool, and a
steam room. Rates include a gourmet continental breakfast that will set you up for the day.
Dominated by exposed log work, the Canmore Rocky Mountain Inn (1719 Bow
Valley Trail, 403/678-5221 or 800/268-0935, www.canmorerockymountaininn.com ,
$122-192 s or d) has regularly revamped, air-conditioned rooms, each with a small balcony
and fireplace.
$150-200
The quality of accommodations in this category far exceeds that of similarly priced options
elsewhere in the Canadian Rockies. If you have up to $200 per night to spend on ac-
commodations, I strongly recommend you consider the first two options, each offering a
unique mountain ambience impossible to find in a regular motel.
Silver Creek Lodge (1818 Mountain Ave., 403/678-4242 or 877/598-4242,
www.silvercreekcanmore.ca , $158-250 s or d) provides hotel and suite accommodations
(one-bedroom with kitchen from $199) within a much larger condominium development.
Aside from modern kitchen-equipped rooms, many with mountain views, highlights in-
clude the highly recommended Wild Orchid Asian Bistro, spa services, outdoor hot tubs,
and underground parking.
