In-Depth Information
Canmore's only nightclub is Hooligan's (Bow Valley Trail, 403/609-2662), but there's
live music somewhere in town every weekend.
MM OH CANADA EH!
This musical dinner show (Cornerstone Theatre, 125 Kananaskis Way, off Bow Valley
Trail, 403/609-0004 or 800/773-0004) provides a rip-roaring evening of fun and food in
a modern building decorated as a cavernous log cabin. It's unashamedly cheesy, but the
parade of costumed Canadian characters, such as lumberjacks, natives, Mounties, and even
Anne of Green Gables, will keep you laughing as they sing and dance across the floor. The
food is surprisingly good, with Canadian favorites such as Alberta beef, salmon, and maple
chocolate cake served buffet-style. Performances are nightly through summer at 6:30pm,
and the all-inclusive cost is adult $75, senior $69, child 16 and under free.
FESTIVALS AND EVENTS
Canmore's small-town pride lives on through a busy schedule of festivals and events,
which are nearly always accompanied by parades of flag-waving kids, free downtown pan-
cake breakfasts, and an evening shindig somewhere in town.
Winter
Throughout the winter months, locals play hockey on ponds and rinks scattered throughout
the valley. Things get a little more serious at home games of the Canmore Eagles
( www.canmoreeagles.com ), held at the recreation center along 8th Avenue. The New Year
is ushered in with Party on the Pond, with skating, wagon rides, fireworks, and bonfires
on and around the frozen pond beside 10th Street.
Spring
The mid-June celebration artsPeak Arts Festival (403/678-6436,
www.artspeakcanmore.com ) is hosted at venues throughout town, including along the
main street. As the name suggests, expect lots of arts-oriented festivities, including work-
shops, displays, and walking tours.
Summer
Canada Day (July 1) is celebrated with a pancake breakfast, parade, various activities in
Centennial Park, and 10:30pm fireworks.
