Bill Peyto's Café is a great value.
Across the TransCanada Highway, the Lodge of the Ten Peaks, at the base of the Lake
Louise winter resort (403/522-3555), is open 7:30am-10:30am daily in summer for a large
and varied breakfast buffet that costs a super-reasonable adult $15, child $10. An even bet-
ter deal is to purchase a breakfast/gondola ride combo for adult $30, child $17 (the gondola
ride alone is $28). The buffet lunch (11:30am-2:30pm) is $20, or $35 with the gondola
ride.
European
In 1987, the M Post Hotel (200 Pipestone Dr., 403/522-3989 or 800/661-1586,
www.posthotel.com ) was expanded to include a luxurious new wing. The original log
building was renovated as a rustic, timbered dining room (6:30pm-10pm daily, $31-44)
linked to the rest of the hotel by an intimate lounge. Although the dining room isn't cheap,
it's a favorite of locals and visitors alike. The chef specializes in European cuisine, pre-
paring several Swiss dishes (such as veal zurichois) to make owner George Schwarz feel
less homesick. But he's also renowned for his presentation of Alberta beef, Pacific salmon,
