Beach Lifeguards: In 2011 the RNLI took over responsibility for the beach lifeguard ser-
vice on Jersey beaches during the summer months.
Cover is provided at St Brelade's Bay, St Ouen's Bay and Plemont from the middle of May
until the end of September whilst cover starts at Greve de Lecq at the beginning of July.
The hours of cover are 10.00 to 18.00.
The safe swimming areas are marked by red and yellow flags, and clearly it is advisable
to stay between the flags whilst swimming. If the red flag is flying the conditions are too
dangerous for swimming therefore you should stay out of the water.
Although it is reassuring to have the lifeguards patrolling the beaches and each year they
save several lives and prevent a number of other accidents but once in a while it would be
good to see their signs encouraging people to enjoy Jersey's coastal waters. Everything
seems to “Beware” or “Do not”
