In-Depth Information
Archirondel: Just to the north of Anne Port is the small bay of Archirondel, which is pop-
ular with locals and tourists alike. Facing east it is a perfect place for an early morning
swim and it is sheltered from the prevailing winds. At high tide the stony beach drops
steeply into the water but at low tide there is a large expanse of sand exposed and the water
remains shallow for quite along way out. There is a small car park close to the beach and
further parking near to the main road. The Driftwood Café offers refreshments and there
are public toilets with external showers to wash the salt off after a refreshing dip in the sea.
St Catherines: Dominated by the large 19 th Century breakwater on the north side of the
bay there are a number of places to swim and relax in St Catherines. Close to the Lifeboat
Station there is a small car park and slipway (known locally as Mike's Slip). At high water
the beach consists of pebbles. Further north there is another small slip at Bel Val, with a
car park on the opposite side of the road. This area of the bay is popular with locals. Fur-
ther north still is the area around the breakwater.
There are toilets, a café, a fish farm plus the Jersey Canoe Club and St Catherines Sailing
Club. The Jersey Long Distance Swimming Club meet here regularly and swim off the
slip plus there are regularly groups of divers undergoing training. The area around here is
always a hive of activity so it is a pleasant and interesting location to pass a few hours.
The Breakwater is suitable for fishing off at most stages of the tide.
