In-Depth Information
Introduction
Nearly 100 miles south from England is the largest of the Channel Islands, Jersey. The is-
land which gave the world the Jersey Cow, is home to nearly 100,000 people, but at certain
times of the year this number is swelled as tourists arrive to experience all that the island has
to offer.
Officially the island is the sunniest place in the British Isles and during the summer months
it can be delightfully warm, but regardless of the weather there is so much to see and exper-
ience. The day of hundreds of honeymoon couples descending on the Island for a couple of
weeks holiday have long disappeared. Today Jersey is the ideal destination for the tourist
who wants an active holiday in the outdoors with the opportunity to relax in a country inn or
eat in superb restaurants at the end of the day.
That said there is also plenty to keep families occupied. If the weather is appropriate there
are some of the finest beaches to be found anywhere, with the opportunity for safe bathing
and at times reasonably warm water. For the younger members of the family, there are end-
less hours of fun to be had, exploring the numerous rock pools, which are found all around
the coast.
Within the 45 square miles there is such a huge variety of landscapes, from the broad sweep
of St Ouen's Bay to the small, secluded harbours of the north coast plus the unique coastal
landscape of the south east corner, which is revealed as the tide drops.
