In-Depth Information
Springfield Stadium on the outskirts of St Helier is the home of football in Jersey. The
modern stadium is unlikely to see a repeat of the night in November 1971 when Manchester
United visited the island to play St Ouen's. Over 10,000 spectators were crowded into the
old stadium. There is a gym, a multi-purpose sports hall and café plus meeting rooms.
16 New Street built in in the 1730's is the finest remaining Georgian house in St Helier.
It has had a varied history, including being the HQ of the Young Man's Christian Asso-
ciation (YMCA) from 1909 to 1964. After a period of time being used by the shop de
Gruchy's, it gradually fell into disrepair. In December 2003 the property was gifted to the
National Trust for Jersey and after some generous donations it was possible to repair the
house and restore it to its former glory. It was opened to the public on November 5 th 2011.
From April to October the house is open to visitors on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays.
