18.) Visit Jersey War Tunnels - formerly the Underground Hospital the Jersey
War Tunnels continue to be one of the islands foremost tourist attractions. Built
by the German's between 1940 and 43 the exhibits document life in Jersey during
the occupation. Open daily from March to November it is just one example of the
many fortifications, which are encountered when traveling around the Island. The
German Occupation from 1940 to 1945 had a major impact on the landscape of the
island; the War Tunnels help explain the story.
19.) Spend a night in one of the historic buildings - over the last few years Jersey
Heritage have refurbished a number of buildings around the island and they are
now available for residential stays. Ranging from the Barge Aground on St Ouen's
Bay to the dramatic Radio Tower at Corbiere they all have their unique appeal.
Just remember to book early, as they are popular with locals as well as tourists.
20.) Wander around St Aubins particularly at high water - the delightful vil-
lage of St Aubin's, tucked in at the western end of the bay of the same name, was
the original harbour of Jersey and is a lovely place to wander around, both dur-
ing the day and the evening. There is an Art Gallery, several restaurants, a yacht
chandlers and a range of pubs where it is possible to have a relaxing drink. If the
tide is out it is possible to walk across the causeway to St Aubin's Fort, which is
now used as an activity base by Education Sport and Culture. On a warm summers
evening with a high spring tide there can be few places, which are as attractive to
stroll around.
