Looking across St Ouen's Bay. The Pond is clearly visible, home to a number of Marsh
Harriers, plus a variety of other birds, there are two hides from which to watch the birds.
11.) Visit La Hougue Bie or a dolmen - La Hougue Bie is one of Europe's finest
passage graves. It is now part of Jersey Heritage and open from the beginning of
April to the beginning of November. Walking through the grounds the story of the
people who lived here 6,000 years ago is revealed. There are a number of other
sites around the island though, where it is possible to appreciate the nature of these
historic locations.
La Pouquelaye de Faldouet in St Martin and Les Monts de Grantez in St Ouen are
two superb examples, well worth a visit. I am always amazed that it is possible to
visit such important historic sites, which are dotted around the Island and to have
the area to yourself. Anybody, with even the slightest imagination, cannot fail to
be impressed when standing close to such monuments. Try to visualise the phys-
ical effort and community co-operation, which was necessary to build such large
structures, thousands of years ago.
