waves in the Channel Islands and there are a number of surfing opportunities. It is
possible to hire the larger surfboards or to take a lesson from one of the many surf
schools, which can be found in the bay. If standing up seems too much of a chal-
lenge then boogie boards will offer plenty of alternative excitement. At various
times in the bay you will see kite surfers, wind surfers, kayak surfers and stand up
paddleboards. There is something for everyone but if all else fails there is always
body surfing. Whichever form of surfing you opt for it is important to be aware of
the etiquette to ensure that the activities are as safe as possible and to avoid poten-
tial conflicts.
6.) Breakfast or lunch down St Ouen's - followed by a brisk walk along the
beach. There are a number of eating establishments along the sea front from Big
Verns in the north to Le Braye in the south, which will appeal to all tastes and ages.
The Watersplash appeals to a younger crowd, the Line Up for simple outside eating
and El Tico for the more discerning diner. Whichever of the 5 establishments is
chosen it should include a walk along the sea wall or the beach, either before or
after eating. The time of the year is irrelevant, whether it is a beautiful summers
day or a howling winter storm with waves crashing over the sea wall, St Ouen's
Bay never fails to impress.
The Line Up is a great place for an alfresco breakfast, particularly during the summer
months.
7.) Stand under the waterfalls at Plemont - this has to be one of the best bays
on the island to explore whether you are an adult or a child. At low water there are
a number of caves waiting to be explored with a large number of rock pools, which
will appeal to the more adventurous. At the back of the bay one of the caves has
a waterfall poring over its entrance, it is always a challenge to run through it, par-
ticularly during the winter months when the rate of water flow can be particularly
high. At times there is also excellent surf towards low water, lifeguards patrol the
