Sports
Athletics: There is an active athletics club, The Jersey Spartans Athletics Club , which or-
ganises a number of races throughout the year including a half marathon in November.
There has been a half marathon for a number of years in May, which runs along a very scenic
course, starting on the north coast.
In October there is a full marathon , which is proving to be very popular with visiting run-
ners. There is the opportunity to take part in the full marathon, a relay race or a fun run.
Although the start and finish in St Helier the course takes the runners through some of the
most beautiful areas of the Island.
Not every runner is interested in competing though but for visitors and residents alike there
is some superb running waiting to be discovered on the Island. Just pull on your trainers and
head out and explore Jersey. Favourite areas for running include the cliff paths of the north
coast and the southwest cliffs, the Railway Walk or the waterfront between St Helier and St
Aubin.
Badminton: The Jersey Badminton Association was formed in 1924 and for nearly 90
years has been at the heart of the development of the sport on the Island. The Association
has its own courts at the “New Gilson Hall”, which was built in the 1990's.
Bowling: Jersey Bowl is a ten-pin bowling alley, close to the Jersey Rugby Club, on the
Airport Road. There are 18 bowling lanes with free entry and plenty of parking. In addition
there is a licensed with serves food. The opening hours are:
Monday - Thursday 12.00 pm -11.30 pm
Friday 12.00 pm - 12.00 am
Saturday 9.00 am - 12.00 am

Bowls: There are 5 outdoors bowls clubs in Jersey, which have a combined membership
of approximately 1,000 plus the Jersey Indoor Bowling Association, which has a stadium at
Granville, in St Saviour.
Croquet: The Jersey Croquet Club has a Clubhouse and 4 lawns of international standard

Football: There are a large number of football clubs on the island, ensuring that there are a
number of active leagues. They are designed to cater for a wide range of ages.
The Island also has its own football team and the highlight of its programme is the annual
match against Guernsey for the Muratti Vase.
The home of Jersey football is Springfield Stadium on the outskirts of St Helier. Facilities
there are excellent but the current stadium is unlikely to experience anything like the old one
