In-Depth Information
The cycle routs on the Island are clearly signposted and the routes are easy to follow.
Fishing: Fishing is a major activity in Jersey, there are several topics devoted to it, and
there are a number of different aspects to it.
1.) Sea fishing: This is possible virtually anywhere around the island. The piers attract a
regular group of fishing devotees; St Catherine's in particular is a popular destination with a
wide variety of species caught. A number of headlands are also suitable for fishing. Pointe
La Moye, Noirmont, Tour de Rozel and Sorel are popular with fishermen but care needs
to be exercised whilst walking down the cliffs as we as being aware of the risks posed by
particularly large swells, which have the potential to sweep people of the rocks.
2.) Coarse fishing: There are a number of options for freshwater fishing, although there
are no rivers. Trout fishing is available on the two largest reservoirs, Val de la Mare in the
west and Queens Valley in the east. The fly fishing season is from mid-April through to
the end of October. A days fishing costs approximately £25. It is also possible to fish at
Dannemarche and Millbrook Reservoirs in Waterworks Valley, which are stocked with a
range of fish. The season runs from the 1 st June to the 31 st March, with day tickets coast-
ing £5.00. For further information contact the Jersey Freshwater Angling Association .
3.) Boat fishing: Access to the rich offshore fishing grounds is restricted to those who are
fortunate enough to have access to a boat. Fortunately though there are a number of com-
mercial charter boats, which offer visitors and residents alike the opportunity to fish the
rich offshore banks.
