In-Depth Information
Two aspects of bird life in Jersey, the re-introduction of the Chough is a positive move
whilst the decline of the Puffin population is of major concern.
The Societe Jersiaise Ornithology Section publishes the annual Jersey Bird Report, which
contains a wealth of information about the status of birds on the Island and is essential
reading for any visiting or local bird watcher. The Section also meets every other Thursday
evening at the Societe Jersiaise premises in Pier Road to record what species have been
seen.
Information on what species are around on a daily basis is available on the Jersey Birds
website, which is a valuable resource for both local and visiting bird watchers. If it is felt a
guide would be appreciated then Neil Singleton of Birding Tours runs daily bird watching
tours. Tel: 07797 748653
Blo-karting: Essentially sailing on land there are several locations around the Island
where it is possible to book sessions and experience the thrill of hurtling across the beach,
when sitting only a few centimetres above the sand. It is a very weather dependant activity
with plenty of days when the wind is either too light or too strong. There are two loca-
tions at St Ouen's with Absolute Adventures close to Big Verns and Pure Adventure at Le
Braye. It is normally required to book in advance but it is one of those activities, which is
available throughout the year.
