Notes
1 A state-of-the-art single stream pyrolysis pilot facility is in operation in
Akron, Ohio, with a second one planned in Cleveland, OH. Commercially
available Agilyx (Beaverton, OR) units, for instance, claim to yield 60
barrels of oil per 10 tons of plastic waste.
2 Approximate fuel yield in pyrolysis of common plastics are as follows: PS
~ 90%, PP and PE ~ 70%, and PET ~ 30%.
3 The largest in the United States is the Puente Hills Landfill in City of
Industry,CA,toweringtoaheightof500ft(aboutthatoftheWashington
monument) and covering a land area of over 700 acres.
4 This may not be true where waste has to be transported long distances in
search of a landfill, as in the case of New York City.
5 Waste with higher calorific values yield higher energy in incineration. The
calorificvalueofwastevarieswiththecountry:InChina,Korea,orBrazil,
