Hydrolysis:Hydrolysisofplastics(Lopez-Fonsecaetal.,2009)withwateror
dilutealkaliyieldsmonomersorothercompounds.Thermosetpolyurethane
foam for instance is hydrolyzed into polyols and amines by superheated
steam at 230-315°C in about 15 min (Lonescu, 2005).
Similarly, PET can be hydrolyzed under acidic or basic conditions to yield
terephthalic acid (Carvalho et al., 2006; Paszun and Spychaj, 1997; Sato et
al., 2006).
