In 2004, the “Saran” brand changed to using LDPE due to environmental
concerns with polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC) despite the excellent
barrier properties of the latter, not matched by the LDPE film. Coltro et
al., in a 2014 study, still found some commercial cling films containing
phthalates.
