7.2.2 Effects of Exposure to BPA
Adverse health effects of exposure to BPA have been reported at a range of
doses including a substantial literature on effects at doses well below the
reference dose of 50 µg/kg body weight/day deemed “safe” by the USEPA.
Most of the data, however, are based on animal model studies. A detailed
discussion of these effects and the possible mechanisms of toxicity involved
are beyond the scope of this chapter. However, the major effects are
