ACOPRIK still struggles with the consequences of the conflict between conservationists and
has had to expend significant energy and resources on self-preservation rather than on getting work
done. As a result, conservation funding isn't used as efficiently or as quickly as possible, at a time
when environmental degradation is increasing exponentially. If anything, self-sacrifice in the largest
sense of the expression is called for, to put aside personal ambitions and professional pride, to make
coalitions that will be imperfect because humans are, in order to achieve concrete goals on the
ground.
