10.6.4 Response of Structures to Artificially Generated Pulse Input
A set of artificial spectra was determined for interplate earthquakes, characterized
by velocity pulse with short periods (Gioncu and Mateescu, 1998a, 2000). The
characteristics of velocity pulse and the pulse types are presented in Figure 10.24.
Considering the characteristics of the examined near-source ground motions for
moderate earthquakes, the followings cases were considered:

Symmetry or asymmetry of velocity pulse using different values of the
parameter:
alpha = v max /v min = 0.6; 1.0 (symmetry); 1.6

Pulse periods
T p = 0.1; 0.2; 0.3; 0.4; 0.5 and 1.0 sec

Number of pulses: one pulse, two adjacent pulses, two separate pulses.
