8.5.5 Infilled Frames
It is well known that non-structural elements may provide most of the earthquake
resistance and prevent collapse of relatively flexible moment resisting frames. Infills
were usually classified as non-structural elements and their influence was neglected in
design. In the last period, recognizing the importance of infills, the case of infilled
structures is considered as a system type, in addition to moment resisting frames and
braced frames. There are two main infilled frame types: masonry infilled reinforced
concrete frames and panel infilled steel frames.
