Comparison between these two earthquake types. The numerical simulation
offers the opportunity to compare the two earthquake types and to underline the
main differences, comparison which was practically impossible from the recorded
values, due to parasite influences. The analysis of the obtained results can lead one
to conclude that some important differences exist, which must be introduced in the
design specifications.
- For thrust earthquakes the dominant velocities are the vertical ones, while
for the strike-slip earthquakes the main velocities occur in plan normal to
the rupture surface.
- The duration of strike-earthquakes is larger than the one of the thrust
earthquakes.
