Another zone with strike-slip earthquakes is the Alpine fault in South Island of
New Zealand (Fig. 6.10). It is situated on the Fire Ring, where the Pacific and
Australian plates push each other sideways. The Alpide fault is the largest active
fault in New Zealand and extends over 650 km, the most active part of the fault is
the central section with earthquakes shallower than 15 km.
There are also two areas with strike-slip earthquakes, around the Scotia plate and
Middle of Atlantic Ocean, but these ones are situated in oceanic zones,
uninteresting for earthquake Engineering
