Erva's 9 Far West St T 824 2821. Friendly little
restaurant with outdoor seating and a huge, reasonably
priced menu of Belizean staples. Daily specials such the
delicious “black dinner”, a murky soup containing chicken,
olives, and hard-boiled eggs, cost around Bz$12; burgers
and burritos are cheaper, while steaks and seafood
range up to Bz$30. Everything is freshly prepared, so
you can expect a short wait for your food. Mon-Sat
8am-3pm & 6-10pm.
Flayva's Bar & Grill 22 Burns Ave T 804 2267. Usually
the liveliest spot on San Ignacio's main street, the patio
of this bustling bar/restaurant makes a great spot to soak
up the local nightlife. Burgers Bz$6, jerk chicken for
Bz$12 and a rich seafood stew for Bz$22, usually with
a reggae soundtrack, and live music in the garden.

Guava Limb 79 Burns Ave T 824 4837. Bright, relaxed
café, overlooking a lush park from the upper veranda of a
blue cottage, a 5min walk north of the centre. Under the
motto “slim and trim like guava limb”, it serves healthy,
largely organic salads, sandwiches and specials like grilled
snapper (Bz$15), plus espresso coffees, smoothies such as
the lurid purple dragon-fruit flavour, and cocktails. Tues-
Sat 11am-9pm.

breakfasts with strong, locally grown coffee, for around
Bz$10, and lunches and dinners of traditional Creole
food and pizza (Bz$20-35). There's always a vegetarian
choice, like the Maya green vegetable chaya , with
delicious cakes for dessert, and good service too. The
patio tables are romantically candlelit in the evenings.

Pop's Far West St T 824 3366. Small, much-loved local
restaurant, serving huge, inexpensive Bz$10 breakfasts
until 2pm, with bottomless cups of coffee, plus similarly
inexpensive Belizean dishes, including a daily lunch special.

Excellent food in tranquil resort surroundings, well away
from the centre. Full dinners incorporating organic
meats from their own ranch cost around Bz$30; fresh
seafood is a little more expensive, and local specialities
such as escabeche (marinated fish) or black mole soup a
little cheaper. There's a Lebanese influence in the
appetizers, which include hummus and olives. Daily
7am-10pm.
Serendib Restaurant 27 Burns Ave T 804 2302,
W aguallos.com/serendib. Long-established local
favourite, with new owners but the same chefs,
which specializes in top-notch Sri Lankan curries,
priced around Bz$14 for vegetarian options or Bz$20-22
for chicken or seafood.

Ko-Ox Han Nah 5 Burns Ave T 824 3014. Small,
hugely popular local restaurant, open to the street and
named “Let's Go Eat”, which serves excellent and unusual
Belizean cuisine, including weekday lunch specials such
as cow-foot soup or “boil-up” for Bz$8, plus more
ordinary international dishes like spaghetti and
meatballs, with steak and seafood main courses costing
up to Bz$40. From 2pm onwards, you can also get
Indian-style curries for Bz$20-30. Many of the
ingredients, including fresh beef and lamb, come from
the owner's farm. Arrive early or you may well have to
wait. Mon-Sat 6am-9pm.

Sweet Ting 96 Benque Viejo Rd T 610 4174.
A tiny but brilliant little café on the western edge of
town that serves espresso coffees, hot chocolate, milk
shakes and a wide range of teas, but above all an
extremely colourful array of fabulous cakes and pastries,
which it also supplies to restaurants all over the country.
A fat slab of chocolate mint cake costs Bz$5. Daily
noon-9pm.
DRINKING AND NIGHTLIFE
San Ignacio attracts not only international visitors, but also plenty of weekending Belizeans, so it's home to a surprising number
of bars , some of which can get quite rowdy later at night. It's never hard to find live music and dancing at the weekend.
Blue Angels 11 Hudson St T 663 1313. This dark
upstairs club has the only real dancefloor in town, filled as
the night wears on with sweaty bodies. Locals head here to
wind and grind to dancehall and reggaeton; it's quite rough
around the edges, offering an authentic taste of Belizean
nightlife. Mon-Wed & Sun 10am-midnight, Thurs-Sat
10am-2am.
