CAYE CAULKER ORIENTATION
Getting around the island is a breeze: you'll find three sandy main streets running roughly
parallel to the eastern shore. O cially, these are called Avenida Hicaco, Avenida Langosta and
Avenida Mangle but the original names of “Front”, “Middle” and “Back”, respectively, are always
used. Outside the village, the main streets end and only a single road leads north and south,
turning into a winding path beyond the airstrip.

ACCOMMODATION
Caye Caulker has a range of accommodation, from simply furnished, inexpensive rooms in brightly painted clapboard
guesthouses to mid-range B&Bs to sleek resorts with swimming pools. The caye is easily walkable: even the furthest hotels
are no more than a half-hour walk from the Front Dock. For house rentals, check at Caye Caulker Rentals , south of the
Front Dock ( T 226 0029, W cayecaulkerrentals.com). The sandy streets and paths are far less busy in the southern part of
the caye, and most of the accommodation in this area is in the mid- to upper-range. Note that some of the places can be up
to a 25-minute trek from the centre, which can be a drag at night, as there are minimal streetlights. Consult the map
(see p.107) to confirm, and if you are staying at one of the further places, inquire about the availability of bicycles, which
are helpful for zipping into town.
