Palmilla Restaurant At the Victoria House T 226

dining menu in a romantic, candlelit setting overlooking
the hotel's pool. Start off with grilled pork belly with
pineapple chutney (Bz$22), followed by lobster with
couscous (Bz$62) or roast snapper with sweet potato
(Bz$50). Also serves breakfast and lunch. Hours may vary,
but generally daily 7am-9pm.

Legends Burger House Just north of the bridge

Admittedly, you probably didn't come to
a Caribbean island to eat burgers. But if you have
a craving, this is the place. A roadside clapboard
restaurant painted in red, white and blue, the casual,
cheery Legends serves thick and juicy burgers
(from Bz$7), topped with everything from slabs of
bacon to beer-battered shrimp, which crowns the
Sir Barry Burger, named after late Belizean
billionaire Barry Bowen. It also hosts live music and “jam
nights” on the weekend, and occasionally during the
week. Mon-Sat 11am-9pm (until midnight on live
music nights).
Rendezvous On the beach, 3.5 miles north of town

p.93. A delicious and unique fusion of Thai and French
cuisines, accompanied by wines from the restaurant's own
winery. Try the signature phad thai , with sautéed chicken
and shrimp, and the lobster tail with roast garlic (mains
Bz$30-50). Heavenly desserts, too, like home-made
coconut ice cream. Tues-Sun 6-9pm.

NORTH ISLAND
Capricorn At the Capricorn Resort T 226 2809,

food in a beautiful location, with such dishes as
French escargot, crab claws and pork tenderloin. Mains
Bz$30-60. Great breakfasts, too - don't miss the fresh-
squeezed juices. 8-10am, 11.30am-2pm & 6-9pm;

Lazy Croc BBQ Buena Vista Point, on the beachfront,
1.5 miles north of San Pedro T 226 4015; map p.93. The
popular Belizean tradition of BBQ is perfected here, with

San Pedro is the tourist capital of Belize and, correspondingly, it also has the liveliest nightlife in the country. You'll find
the buzziest bars and clubs near the centre of town, along the beach. Locals often gather in Central Park in the evening,
which fills with food vendors, making this a good spot to grab a cheap snack after a boozy night out.
Crazy Canucks South of town, at Exotic Caye Beach

of the more popular bars on the island, which easily lives up
to its motto: “Where the beer is cold, the sand is warm and
the live bands are jammin'!” Potent tropical cocktails
include the Dirty Howler Monkey, made with Kahlua, dark
rum and banana. Come by on “Sunday Funday,” with jam
sessions starting at 3pm. Daily 11am-midnight.
Fido's Barrier Reef Drive, on the beach, just north of

palapa -style beach club draws a nightly crowd to the
ample bar and outdoor seating. Live music most nights of
the week, and a great spot to meet other travellers. Daily
11am-midnight.
Jaguar Temple Near Central Park W jaguarstemple
club.com; map p.95. A hopping dance club, where locals
and visitors - plus the occasional shady character or two -
come to groove under pulsating lights. Stop by for happy
hour (5-7pm) at the street-level bar out front, Rehab
Lounge . Thurs-Sat 9pm-4am; Rehab Lounge: Tues-
Sun 3pm-midnight.
Lola's Pub Barrier Reef Drive, across from Belize Bank
T 206 2120; map p.95. Mix it up with a friendly crowd of
expats and locals at this homely pub, with a top-notch
cocktail menu and all manner of hosted events, from poker
nights to football games to cigar-sampling. Hearty pub
grub ranges from burgers to fish and chips (from Bz$10).

Palapa Bar and Grill About 1 mile north of the bridge

into the Caribbean evening over a rum cocktail at this
palapa bar on the water. Soak up the alcohol with good pub
grub, like fish tacos and the appropriately named, juicy
“Kick Ass Humongous Burger” (Bz$10-20). Daily
10am-9pm.
Rojo Beach Bar 5 miles north of town, on the beach

beach bar hits all the right notes: open-air palapa seating
on a gorgeous stretch of beach, fresh tropical cocktails and
bar snacks that far exceed the usual pub grub, like lobster
pizza (from Bz$15). Tues-Sat noon until last person
leaves.
