fiesta atmosphere pervades this hotel and its sister hostel
across the street, Pedro's Inn Backpackers Hostel (same
contact details). Hotel rooms are simple but comfortable,
with a/c and cosy beds. Both the hotel and hostel have
access to two pools. The on-site Pedro's Sports Pub and
Pizzeria is a grea t place to conn ect wit h locals and other

The Tides Beach Hotel Boca del Rio, just north of the

and two double beds. Rooms face the pool and bar with the
ocean beyond. Patojo's Dive shop, connected to the hotel,
has exc ellent dive packages and diving information.

family-owned beachfront wooden-and-concrete st ructure
has rooms with fridge and TV; some have sea views. US$45
The Phoenix Barrier Reef Drive, near Caribeña St

rare to find a hotel of this calibre so near the town
centre. The great appeal is that you can lounge in the
gorgeous grounds, splashing in the sun-drenched
pool or unwinding at the Sol Spa - and when you're
ready for some San Pedro action, you're just a few
blocks away. The light-flooded condominiums are
massive and sleek, and there are all sorts of personal
touches, such as complimentary local mobile phones to
use during your stay and fresh hibiscus flowers scattered
daily atop your snow-white bed. The on-site restaurant,
Red Ginger ( see p.10 4), serves excellent fresh-from-the-

Ramon's Village Coconut Drive, near the airstrip

resort enjoys a prime position, right on the beach. Roomy
thatched-roof cabañas have plenty of amenities, and the
leafy grounds feature a pool - presided over by “Rey
Ramon,” a huge replica of a May a mask - and a dock for

Ruby's Barrier Reef Drive, south of the centre T 226

family-run budget hotel on the seafront. The clean (though
worn) rooms, some with a/c, get better views the higher up
you go; all a re goo d value, and those with shared bath

San Pedrano Barrier Reef Drive, at Caribeña St T 226

in a wooden building with nice rooms, some with a/c. Set
back slightly from the sea, but with fine views and breezy
verandas. S ome ro oms have three beds, which work well

Spindrift Hotel Barrier Reef Drive, at Buccaneer St

the beach near the heart of town, this concrete hotel offers
some rooms with great views across the sea and others
around a patio. This is also h ome to th e perennially popular
Wahoo's Lounge (see p.106). US$$50
Sunbreeze Hotel South end of Barrier Reef Drive

around a sandy courtyard and a pool, this well-run
beachfront hotel has comfortable rooms with large
bathrooms; some have a jacuzzi. The restaurant, Blue Water

hammock or imm erse yourself in the hot tub. Breakfast
