Let's Make Some Noise
Regardless of the game type or platform, sound is a vital part of the gaming
experience. This i eld usually falls into one of three broad categories: sound
ef ects, voice-overs, and music. Most video games contain some amount of
all three elements. Certain genres might have a lot of dialogue for example,
others not so much. Most games will have at least one kind of sound ef ect,
although the exceptions to that rule are the earliest games back in the later
1960s and early 1970s, which were completely silent. It wouldn't be worth
dedicating a whole topic to the craft of creating audio for silent games, but
I think that probably goes without saying.
