VOICES
The human voice is a very powerful communication tool. Within a game environment, this
communication is vital. Voice-over can do many things, from simply letting the player know what is
happening at a given time to foreshadowing events to come. From simple instructions to major plot
developments, the spoken word is a great device for immersing a player deeper into a game world. Well
crafted vocal elements can produce many interesting ef ects, from the mundane to the sublime, such as:
• delivering important informational cues, such as basic operating instructions and game objectives;
• telling the game's story and developing the dynamic arc;
• allowing the player to communicate directly with the characters and vice versa;
• creating a more immersive experience and making the player feel as if they are actually part of the
story.
