In-Depth Information
this end, the various chapters in this topic constitute a con-
tribution to such scientific studies and research for managing
the estuaries and the coastal waters of West and Central
Africa for sustainable human and ecosystem use.
The content of this topic also contributes to the global
research analysis and synthesis agenda of the Land-Ocean
Interactions in the Coastal Zone (LOICZ) especially on its
core program of Earth System Science Project convened
under the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme
(IGBP) and the International Human Dimensions Pro-
gramme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP). The
primary focus of LOICZ concerns related to river mouth
systems, including estuaries and deltas (see www.loiczs.org ).
