around a fire, not far from the pride, schmoozing and eating. Not a care in the world that
one of the lions would attack! Beyond excited by a 10-lion total for the afternoon, three
jackals crossed the road on the way out of the park.
On the road back toward Sasangir town, a parade of gaily dressed locals came towards
us carrying what appeared to be a brightly decorated, paper mosque, and towards the river;
a ritual celebrating the Prophet Mohammed's death.
Back at Lion Safari Camp, we saw guests returning from the river where they had
gathered to watch swarms of fruit bats who come out at 6:45p every evening to feed. The
two of us were frozen, crippled from the game drive, and only wanted to eat and go to sleep.
A 5:30a wake-up loomed ahead for the morninggame drive. It was close to 8:00p before
the dinner buffet was ready - more chicken, rice, dal, potatoes with eggplant, coconut Burfi
for dessert (covered in shredded coconut, and bound together with some sweet ingredient).
