CROSSING THE ARGENTINE BORDER
TO PUERTO IGUAZÚ
By bus Crucero del Nord buses depart every 40min or so
(7am-7pm; every hr Sat & Sun, 45min past the hr; R$4)
from Rua Mem de Sá (at Rua Taroba), the street just north
of the Terminal de Transporte Urbano (you can also flag
them down at stops en route), terminating at the bus
terminal in the centre of Puerto Iguazú, where there are
regular buses to the Argentine falls (see p.572). Bus drivers
won't wait for you while you clear immigration; keep your
ticket and take the next one coming through.
By taxi Taxis charge around R$50 to Puerto Iguazú, and
R$100 to the Argentine falls (R$190 return). Taxi drivers
will wait for you while you clear immigration.
Entry requirements for Brazil You'll have to stop at both
the Brazilian and Argentine immigration posts in both
directions, but wait times are rarely more than a few minutes.
If you're of a nationality that normally requires a visa to visit
Brazil (Australia, Canada, USA etc), don't worry; the Brazilian
border guards will re-admit you if it's obvious you've visited
the Argentine side for one day (the dates will be in your
passport, which you'll still need to bring); you will still need to
hand in your entry form at the border when leaving Brazil, and
fill in another entry card when you cross back over later on.
However, check the current situation before you leave Brazil.
Entry requirements for Argentina Most nations do
not need a visa to enter Argentina for up to 90 days, but
you'll still need to fill out an arrival card at immigration
(and hand it in when you leave). However, one important
caveat for Australian, Canadian or US passport holders:
prior to arrival in Argentina you must pay a US$160-
equivalent reciprocity fee by credit card online at the
Provincia Pagos website ( W provinciapagos.com.ar). You
must print out the receipt and present it to the Argentine
immigration of cer at the time of entry (it's valid for ten
years and for multiple entries). Even if you visit Argentina
for just a few hours, you must pay this fee.
