By boat
The island is reached by direct boat services
from Paranaguá (see p.561) or, more frequently, from
Pontal do Sul, where Viacao Graciosa buses from Curitiba
terminate (5 daily; 2.5hr; R$30). If travelling by car, there
are private parking areas here where you can safely park
for a charge of R$15-20 per day. The crossing to
Encantadas or Nova Brasília from Pontal do Sul takes
about 20min, with boats departing hourly from 8am to
6pm (R$29 return).

Brasília (7-9 daily; 20min; R$10).
Tourist information
There is a small tourist information
booth at the dock in Nova Brasília (summer: daily
7.30am-8pm).

ACCOMMODATION AND EATING
If you plan to visit in the height of
summer
without a reservation it's best to arrive during the week and as early as possible
in the morning as accommodation is scarce. The island is always filled to capacity over
New Year
and
Carnaval
when
reservations should be made weeks in advance and are accepted only for minimum stays of four or five nights.
Restaurants
on the island pretty much all offer an unsophisticated menu, based on fish, prawns, rice and beans. Summer
evenings are always lively, with notices advertising live music and club nights.
