It's easy to arrange hikes inland from Ubatuba to the Parque Estadual Serra do Mar , a large
state nature reserve north of Ubatuba that is divided into several sections, or “nuclei”, and
stretches in a band running inland alongside more than half of the state's coastline.

By bus The rodoviária is on Rua Thomaz Gallardo in the
town centre. Buses serve Paraty (4 daily; 1hr 30min), Rio
(2 daily; 5hr) and São Paulo (8 daily; 3hr 30min). For São
Sebastião, change at Caraguatatuba. For Campos do
Jordão, change at Taubaté.

Tourist information On the seafront at the end of Rua
Conceição (one block north of Rua Thomaz Gallardo)
there's a very helpful tourist office (daily 8am-6pm;
T 12 3833 7300), which supplies maps of the town and
surrounding beaches, and whose staff will make hotel
reservations for you.

pousada is handy if you want to stay in town. All room s are

Arty and slightly pretentious, this is nevertheless a comfy
place to stay south of town. Themed guest rooms are based

One of the best beach-side reestaurants in town, serving
outstanding seafood at low prices, and in particular the
local dish, azul-marinho (fish stewed with green banana in
an iron pot that turns it blue; R$51). Daily noon-11pm.
Rei do Peixe Rua Guarani 480 T 12 3832 3272,

local chain, serving well-cooked super-fresh fish. The
mocequa is R$95 for two with fish, or R$115 with shellfish.
