W fasano.com.br; M Oscar Freire; map p.499. São Paulo's
classiest (as opposed to most expensive) hotel, where the
decor of the lounge, bar, dining area and guest rooms could
hardly be more stylish - modern (without being self-
consciously hip), but with traditional accents. Service is
absolutely impeccable, staff super-professional, and the

Pousada Dona Ziláh Alameda Franca 1621 T 11 3062
1444, W zilah.com; M Oscar Freire; map p.499. This
pretty former home (now Jardins' only pousada ) is one of
the cheapest places to stay in the neighbourhood -
although the rather small singles are still a bit overpriced.
The atmosphere is friendly but unobtrusive, and th ere's
always someone on hand to offer local advice. R$252

Augusta Park Rua Augusta 922 T 11 3124 4400,
W augustapark.com.br; M Paulista; map p.499. All the
rooms here are actually suites, with bedroom, sitting room,
kitchenette and bathroom, and they're certainly decent
enough for the price, if getting a bit worn around the
edges. Rua Augusta can be quite lively so it's a good idea to
get a room on one of the top floors ( and at the back) if noise
from the street bothers you. R$224
Maksoud Plaza Alameda Campinas 150 T 11 3145 8000,
W maksoud.com.br, M Trianon-Masp; map p.499. For
many years São Paulo's most distinguished hotel, the Maksoud
Plaza and its luxurious rooms now seem somewhat mundane
compared to the extravagance of new places like the Unique.
Nonetheless, the staff are e cient and welcoming and there's
a pool and several decent on-site restaurants. Hardly cheap
(especially as the rate doesn't include breakfast), but you'll
rarely pay the f full rack r ate, and at weekends you'll only pay
about half of it. R$1125
