This calm ecological reserve is home to a variety of native plants and a small selection
of the region's wild animals; there are a few short walking trails and the habitat is
scrubby woodland.
Parque das Nações Indígenas
At the entrance to Parque dos Poderes you'll also find the Parque das Nações Indígenas ,
an ecological reserve consisting of pleasant paths serviced by cafés. There's a large lake
with an island in the middle, a pier and several bridges. It's a popular place to practise
sports, with a skate park, cycle lanes, and 4km walking trail. The Monumento ao Índio
and the Museu de Arte Contemporânea are both cultural highlights of the park, while
the new aquarium, the Aquário do Pantanal , offers tourists the chance to see Pantanal
fish without actually going there.
Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Mato Grosso do Sul (MARCO)

The small, but usually colourful, Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Mato Grosso do
Sul (or MARCO ) is a modern art museum with five rooms and around 1500 works,
comprising art exhibitions on local artists as well as temporary exhibits from out-of-
state artists. Well-known regional artists represented in the museum include Genésio
Fernandes, Lídia Baís and Vânia Pereira.

Aquário do Pantanal

Housed in a futuristic, bullet-shaped building, Campo Grande's newest attraction is
also its biggest. Set to be the largest freshwater aquarium in the world when it o cially
opens in 2014, the Aquário do Pantanal is 18,600 square metres large and holds 6.6
million litres of water, containing over 200 species of native wildlife, including fish
native to the Pantanal and caiman.

Just to the south of the Parque das Nações Indígenas (or east from the centre along
Av Joaquim Murtinho), you'll find the Memorial da Cultura Indígena , in the Aldeia
Indígena Urbana (Urban Indigenous Village), Bairro Tiradentes, where there is a craft
workshop, visitor reception and many genuine tribal craft goods for sale, including
ceramics and paintings. Inhabited by people of the Terena tribe, the surrounding brick
urban settlement is a planned municipal project. The memorial building itself is an
imposing traditional-looking hut with a palm-frond roof standing some 8m tall; it
incorporates innovative construction techniques, such as the use of bent bamboo.

There is also a weekly service to Asunción in Paraguay,
leaving Sunday mornings (Amambay company).
BY PLANE
The airport, Aeroporto Internacional Antônio João
( T 67 3368 6000), is 7km out of town on the road towards
Aquidauana. Taxis to the centre cost around R$25. There are
several daily flights (Gol, TAM and Pantanal Linhas Aéreas)
to Brazil's main cities, and also to Vilhena (halfway between
Cuiabá and Porto Velho) and Corumbá.
BY BUS
To travel by bus you'll need a reusable bus pass, which you
can get free from the airport, bus station, post o ce or any
kiosk in the city; all fares are set at R$2.70. The new
