Congresso Nacional
, with its tall twin towers, is the most recognizable landmark in
Brasília. The two large “bowls” on either side of the towers house the Senate Chamber
(the smaller, inverted one) and the House of Representatives, and were designed so that
the public could climb and play on them, though the only people allowed there now
are the patrolling soldiers of the Polícia Militar. Visitors can attend debates when in
session, however - something you might want to enquire about at the front entrance
desk. The chambers themselves are a hoot - they come over today as retro 1960s, but
haven't aged as well as that phrase implies. Most of the guides here can speak English.
