Looking over the Praça das Aguas, this local institution is
without a doubt the best place to dig into all manner of freshly
grilled meats; the roasted rump steak (R$49.50) served with
rice is superb. More adventurous types can try the buchada
carneiro (boiled lamb's bowel; R$44.50). Tues-Thurs
5pm-midnight, Fri-Sun 11am-3pm & 5pm-midnight.

With a very decent selection of grub on offer, this is one of
the best places in the city centre for a por quilo lunch
(R$36.90). There's plenty to choose from, including fish,
meats and veggie dishes, along with a wide selection of
desserts. Mon-Sat 11.30am-2.40pm.

with outdoor roadside seating and a laidback atmosphere
specializes in fish dishes; the bestseller here is the à
delícia , fried fish with white sauce and cheese served with
fried banana (R$39 for two). There's live music on Sat &
Sun afternoons between 1pm and 5pm. Daily
11am-midnight.
Tulipa Av Major Williams 1373 T 95 8115 5940. One of
the best places in Boa Vista for a por quilo lunch (R$32.90),
with a huge selection of dishes including salads, vegetables
and fish, along with an entire section solely dedicated to
freshly grilled meats. Daily 11.30am-3pm.

O Cajueiro Rua João Pereira Caldas 54 T 95 3623 5377.
This welcoming open-fronted bar with wicker lamps and
other local artefacts dotted about is a great spot for an
evening beer (R$6). There are live solo sessions on Fri and
Sat 8pm-midnight, while on Sun the musical flavour is the
popular pagode that kicks off at 7pm. Mon-Fri
11am-2pm & 7pm-1am, Sat & Sun 7pm-1am.

This place fills up in the evenings when locals head to the
riverfront for a sundowner and to enjoy the cool evening
breeze. There are plenty of fish dishes on offer (R$30), and
there's live music Mon-Fri at 8.30pm, while on weekends
bands play at lunchtime. Daily 8am-1am.

Around Boa Vista
Situated as it is on the northern edge of the Amazon forest, where it meets the
savannah of Roraima, the region AROUND BOA VISTA boasts three different forms of
ecosystem best visited on tours from the city: tropical rainforest, grassland savannah
plains and the “Lost World”-style tepius mountains, flat plateau-like rock rising out of
the savannah. Still fairly undeveloped in terms of its tourism infrastructure, the area is
exceptionally beautiful, with a wealth of river beaches, and has a very pleasant climate
(hot with cooling breezes). As the options for ecotourism are developed, more
opportunities will no doubt emerge for visitors to explore Roraima in some depth.
Serra Grande
About 50km from Boa Vista is the beautiful Serra Grande , which, at a height of 850m,
offers plenty of trekking opportunities. The area is home to pretty cascading waterfalls,
natural pools and lush vegetation, and there are wonderful views from high up of the
Rio Branco, Boa Vista and beyond.
Serra do Tepequém
Located 210km from the city, the Serra do Tepequém is one of Roraima's highlights. The
area was a mining settlement for over eight decades, reaching its heyday in the 1930s
