Praia Grande
Prelazia ; originally erected in 1924 with the intention of building a hospital, it became
the o cial residence of priests and the bishop. In 1950 the building became the seat of
the government, while also continuing to serve as the episcopal residence.
Casa do Artesanato
Rua Floriano Peixoto 192 • Mon-Sat 8am-6pm • Free
he Casa do Artesanato opposite the Igreja Nossa Senhora do Carmo on the riverbank
is worth a visit; its selection of handicrafts is not wide but there's some interesting stuff
and it's all very cheap. Nearby there are plenty of small shops selling similar artefacts.
It's a good spot to buy souvenirs.
Praia Grande
Boat from Boa Vista's Porto do Babazinho (R$4; 10min)
Opposite Boa Vista on the other side of the Rio Branco is Praia Grande , a large sand
bar that is a pleasant spot to visit when the water is low between December and April.
Given that the beach emerges only at certain times of the year, there is no infrastructure
so make sure to bring water and food.
