The farmers who till these fertile fields may be called the Plain People, but the
views are far from ordinary in this land where cars comfortably share the road
with horse-drawn buggies.

When to go: Popular year-round
Words to the wise: Bring a cooler to store foods purchased at roadside stands, but note
that most of them are closed on Sunday for observance of the Sabbath.

Descendants of German Protestant sects, mainly Amish and Mennonite, the Pennsylvania
Dutch (a corruption of Deutsch , for “German”) believe in keeping life simple. In fact, any
establishment that calls itself Amish probably isn't, for the Plain People never capitalize on
their religion or themselves.
