1. Bloomington
Tree-lined avenues with a wide selection of shops and restaurants crisscross Bloomington,
an energetic town known for its architecture, art, outdoor fun and local wines. The historic
downtown district's main architectural gem is the 1906 Monroe County Courthouse who's
ornate limestone structure is crowned with a beautiful cupola. But the town's centerpiece
is surely Indiana University. Within walking distance of the downtown square, the campus
boasts ivy-draped halls and dormitories and many quaint trails. Be sure to visit Auditorium
Hall, where murals by Thomas Hart Benton will astound, and the many works by Picasso,
Rodin, Warhol, and other artists at the Indiana University Art Museum.
